Erectile dysfunction treatments
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the most common men's-health complaint crossing into this directory, and its treatment market is well regulated — mostly.
The proven medicines
- Sildenafil (Viagra) — 30–60 min onset, ~4 hours. UK online prices from ~£1.95/tablet (prescription) or ~£9.59 OTC (Viagra Connect).
- Tadalafil (Cialis) — daily 5mg or on-demand 10–20mg. Online from ~£6.90 for 4×10mg (Dr Fox published price, 2026); up to £21 at bigger chains.
- Combined clinic programmes — most TRT clinics also prescribe ED medication after assessment; TRT itself can improve erectile function where deficiency contributes.
The legal shape in the UK
Sildenafil 50mg (Viagra Connect) is pharmacy-OTC after a short pharmacist consultation. All other strengths/brands and tadalafil are POM — an online or in-person prescriber is required. Buying from non-UK "no prescription" sites means counterfeit risk (MHRA's standing warning).
When ED means something else
Erection problems can be the first signal of cardiovascular disease, diabetes or low testosterone — a single ED consult can order the right bloods (HbA1c, lipids, morning total T). Good clinics treat ED as a symptom screen, not a tablet sale.
Devices and alternatives
Vacuum pumps, shockwavetherapy (limited evidence — ask for the trial data), counselling for performance anxiety. Pelvic-floor physiotherapy has real trial support.
