Choosing a TRT clinic: the 12-point checklist
Every TRT clinic's website claims expertise. These twelve checks separate good clinics from good marketing. Run them before handing over money.
- CQC registration (England). Clinics treating patients should be CQC-registered. Check the provider's registered name (not the brand) in the CQC directory. Several clinics in our directory state their registration — Balance My Hormones and Origin TRT (parent SJLD Ltd, provider no. 1-10993862536) publish theirs; Optimale and Leger also state CQC registration.
- A named GMC doctor. Who actually prescribes? Clinic pages should name their doctors. Ours do: Dr Jeff Foster (Optimale), Dr Martyn Bradley (Balance My Hormones), Dr Paul Grant (Origin TRT), Dr Furqan Raja (Manual).
- Blood-first protocol. No clinic should prescribe without two morning blood tests. If a site "diagnoses from a symptom quiz", walk away.
- Two tests before diagnosis. Total testosterone varies; two separate morning draws are the accepted evidence floor (BSSM-aligned).
- Published, all-in pricing. Compare twelve-month totals, not headline figures — see what subscriptions include.
- Monitoring cadence stated in writing. PSA, haematocrit and lipids on a defined schedule (typically 3-monthly in year one) — see risks and monitoring.
- Fertility conversation. TRT suppresses sperm production. If children are a future possibility, ask about hCG or enclomiphene before starting (TRT and fertility).
- Form choice explained. Injections, gels, oral — with doses and frequency (forms guide).
- Cancellation terms. Lifelong treatment should never mean a locked-in contract. Ask how you leave.
- No grey market. Any clinic selling without prescription, or sourcing outside UK-licensed pharmacies, is disqualifying.
- Peptide caution. Clinics offering "peptide therapy" should prescribe from licensed UK compounding; research-chemical vendors are not medicine — see peptide therapy in the UK.
- Data and discretion. Medical records and discreet packaging matter to most patients — check privacy terms.
Print this list. Any clinic that resents being asked these questions has answered one of them already.
